Congratulations to the WFFC fencers who took part in the Senior 5 Nations event, Scotland finished in second place overall to England.
Especially congratulations to the girls epee team who were the only Scottish team to win all four of their matches.
Men's epee only lost to a strong Welsh team, men's foil lost only to England, men's sabre lost to England and Northern Ireland, our young women's sabre team wasn't so successful winning only one match against Rep of Ireland but were still a great team.

The Queen Anne High School team consisting of Andrew Harding, Steven Russell and Scott Davidson which won both the epee and foil U13 British Team Championships last year have travelled down to Whitgift to compete in the same competition but this time in the U15 age group.
The quest to win another British Title is going well with the boys winning foil matches against Westminster 44/19, High Wycombe 44/12, St Benedict 45/11.
In the semi final the boys won 45/14 against Eltham College.
Breaking News: The boys have won the final 45/34 against Brentwood
Congratulations British U15 Foil Team Champions

Andrew Scott Steven
The boys are competing in the epee Team Champoinships on Sunday 2nd and with 9 teams the format of the competition has been three poules of three.
The Boys have finished first in their poule winning both matches and so have a bye directly to the semi finals.
In the poule they beat Arnold School 45/30 and Ewell College 45/5.
The boys won the semi final against St Beads 45/28.
The boys then lost the final against Newcastle 43/45. Better luck next year boys but still very well done.

Cadet & Junior World Championships
Congratulations to Jamie Fitzgerald and Natasha Thomson who have both been selected to compete for Britain at the Cadet World Championships in Acireale, Sicily in April.
Jamie has also been selected to take part in the Junior men's team event.
This is a first for the club, we have never had anyone selected for the World Championships before, so for two fencers to make the British team in one season is fantastic and a testimony to the many hours of hard training that Jamie, Natasha and Ken have been through together over the years.
We wish them both the best of luck. |

British Youth Championships - FOIL
WOO PA PA!
WFFC celebrates it's most successful BYC Foil ever with two GOLD medals one SILVER medal and one last eight medal.
Natasha Thomson started the weekend off by returning the British U16 Girls Foil Champion's trophy which she won last season and she finished it by collecting the British U18 Girls Foil Champion's trophy. Natasha continued to show the same form that has seen her dominate the British cadet (U17) circuit beating two of Britain's top 15 juniors (U20) on her way to victory - Carolyn Benson of Wales in the semi finals and Catriona Sibert of England in the final.
This is Natasha's fourth British title and to round off her success she has been named as part of the GB team for the European Cadet Championships in Rovigo. Italy in March 2008, she has also been selected for the Scottish Senior Team for the annual 5 Nations Team event.
Natasha's success obviously inspired club mates Callum O'Donnell and Casey Avril who fought their way through some of the best U16's in Britain to set up an all WFFC final.
In the semi finals Callum fenced Alex Tofalides and Casey met Kareem Cheriton.
The final was close fought affair with both Casey and Callum leading at various points in the match but in the end Callum's experience advantage told and he won the match. However Casey can take consolation in the fact that he is young enough to enter the U16 event again next year.
In the U12 boys Iain Russell was the clubs only medallist picking up the 8th place medal and securing himself and automatic place in next years BYC finals.
All the other WFFC fencers were fantastic even though they didn't come home with medals.

A few requests; please make sure you enter competitions on time and please enter as WFFC - this is EXTREMELY important for those of you entering adult events. At the Bristol Open Natasha and Zoe also Callum and Jamie ended up in the same poule as they had entered under different combinations of the club name. When there is only one round of poules this can mean the difference between making the cut and not. The same thing has occured for entries to the Manchester Cadets but Lorraine has contacted the organisers in the hope that one club name can be used for all the fencers entered.
Please return borrowed kit by 6pm the following Monday so that it can be used by other club members, electric kit can be returned by 7pm. If you are not coming the the club that night then please make alternative arrangements for its return. If you can't manage this i.e you are fencing abroad and don't return until Monday evening then let us know so we know the kit will not be available to other club members.
VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ken Rose has been awarded the Scottish Fencing Coaching Award for the third year running. This is a great recognition for Ken and his work with Scottish fencers we are delighted to see his efforts recognised by Scottish Fencing.
Natasha Thomson has moved to number one in the British U17 foil rankings after her 5th place at Bristol. She is also number five in the British Junior rankings.
Jamie Fitzgerald was number two in the British U17 foil rankings after Essex. He was also placed 6th in the British Junior rankings.
Kirsty Thomson is currently 5th in the British Junior epee rankings and Chris Harding is also 5th in the men's British Junior epee rankings.
Four fencers placed in the top 10 of the British rankings is a major achievement for the club, well done to everyone for helping to make this possible and lets hope that these fencers can all achieve their goals.
